Tigers Host Georgia Southwestern on Thursday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Thursday, Jan. 6 as UWA (5-7) hosts Georgia Southwestern. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.uwaathletics.com. The contest is the third of a five game homestand for the Tigers – who are 1-1 during the stretch.

The Red and White look to rebound after having its win streak snapped on Saturday by Ouachita Baptist in a 55-42 setback. For the fourth straight contest, Richard Dixon posted double figures with 14 points – leading the team for the third time this season in scoring. Korrielle Beavers tallied 12 rebounds – his fourth consecutive in double figures.

Alquan Mendendall continues to pace the Tigers in scoring this season. The Pine Hill, Ala. native is averaging 14.6 points per game – which stands at 13th best in the Gulf South Conference. The junior guard is tied for the top spot in the conference in 3-pointers made with 45 on the season. In the last three outings, Beavers has become a presence on the glass. The Anniston, Ala. product has pulled down a total of 38 rebounds – including a career-high 14 boards at Southern Arkansas.

A 75-72 overtime loss on Monday snapped a three-game win streak for GSW (6-3) – which is 0-2 on the road this season. Phillip Brown leads a quintet of Hurricanes in double figures with 17.6 points. The junior forward also paces the 'Canes on the boards with 9.1 per game. Talmadge Bell and Trayce Macon has tallied 13.7 and 12.6 points per game respectively while Matt Shaw and Evan Mobley round out the double digit scoring producers with just over 10 points per outing.

Following the Thursday tilt, West Alabama opens GSC play on Saturday, Jan. 15 as the Tigers host Lambuth University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at www.uwaathletics.com.
