UWA Falls At West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Alabama tennis teams fell to West Florida in Gulf South Conference action on Tuesday. Both teams were defeated by 9-0 scores as the men now own a 6-6 record on the year while the women sit at 7-5 after having their five-match winning streak snapped.

On the men's side, the No. 45 Tigers' best chance in doubles play against the nation's eighth-ranked team came from the duo of Lucas Nunes and Luis Ruiz. The pair fell by an 8-6 score. The Argos were able to take singles play in straight sets with the visitors strongest fight being put up by Wade Covington in the third position. The junior took three games off of his opponent in the first set in losing 6-3, 6-1.

The Argos won in straight sets in women's singles as well, with the No. 1 Angy Cuellar threatening the most before falling by scores of 6-4, 6-3. Dasha Popova also put forth a strong effort as she fell 6-3, 6-2 in the five spot.

The two teams return to action on Thursday at 1 p.m. when they welcome Cameron (Okla.) to town.
