LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Looking to snap its five-game winless streak, the University of West Alabama baseball team will host West Georgia for a three-game set this weekend beginning with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. UWA enters the weekend with a 16-15 mark (3-8 Gulf South Conference) while the Wolves own a 13-24 (1-11 GSC) mark.
First pitch is scheduled at 1 p.m. for the series finale on Sunday.
The lone bright spot offensively during the skid,
Ladarrius Cole has six hits and .400 average over the span – the only Tiger regular to boast an average over .300 during the stretch. The Shannon, Miss., native paces the team with a .366 average on the season as he also leads the way with 45 hits and 34 runs scored. Additionally, he is a perfect 14-of-14 in stolen base attempts.
Pitching continues to be a strength for the Red and White with Jeb Huber and
Taylor Bratton leading the way with ERAs of 1.80 and 2.87, respectively. Huber has become a strikeout machine of late, recording 20 of his team-high 46 Ks in his last three outings, and Bratton has been stingy in only giving up eight walks on the season.
Opponents are hitting just .241 off the staff as a whole, and the Tigers have limited the opposition to just a .241 batting average.
The Wolves enter the weekend having lost a midweek game to Montevallo after taking two of three at Lambuth a week ago.
Featuring a solid offense, UWG hits at a .302 clip and has five regulars that hit just under .300 or better including Stuart Drew who has a .448 average on the year. With seven home runs, Andy Marinelli leads the squad in long balls, and he has collected a team-best 37 RBI.
