Tiger Basketball Falls to UWF, 82-64

PENSACOLA, Fla. – A school-record 75 percent shooting performance lifted the University of West Florida men's basketball team past West Alabama, 82-64, Saturday afternoon at the UWF Field House.

With the loss, the Tigers drop to 5-13 overall and 3-3 in the Gulf South Conference, while West Florida moves to 8-11, 3-3 in the GSC.

For the game, UWF shot 75 percent from the field, setting a school record. That mark was also the first time since 1980 that a GSC team has shot at the 75 percent clip. In the second half, the Argos were 20-of-24 from the field – good for an 83 percent shooting performance in the final 20 minutes.

UWA led by as many as six points in the first half and battled back from a 39-30 halftime deficit to actually lead the Argos by one with just over 14 minutes remaining. From that point on, West Florida put on a shooting clinic. Most of the Argo shots came from about 15 feet in as the team did not attempt a three-point shot in the game.

The Tigers made a strong 46 percent from the field for the game with four players scoring in double figures. Meanwhile, six West Florida players reached double figures in scoring.

Next up, UWA entertains Auburn Montgomery on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall on the West Alabama campus.
