LIVINGSTON, ALA. - Having won three out of their last five games on the season, the University of West Alabama men's basketball team (6-13, 3-3 GSC) entertains West Georgia (17-3, 4-2 GSC) Saturday at Pruitt Hall beginning at 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to attend and sign up for a chance at $10,000 in the EconoLodge Inn and Suites Shootout.
The Tigers enter Saturday's meeting following a hard-fought 72-70 win over Auburn Montgomery on Wednesday. In that contest, the Red and White avenged a previous loss to the Warhawks after falling behind by as many as eight in the second half.
Saturday's meeting will also be the start of the second portion of the GSC schedule. With eight games to go until the conference tournament, UWA has three victories in conference play. The Tigers had just five wins in GSC competition all of last season.
In UWA's six wins this year, the Tigers are averaging 75.5 points per outing, while in the team's 13 losses the Red and White are averaging just 59.4 points per game. For the season, the Tigers are led by four players who each average double figures in scoring.
Steven Samuels leads the team with 16.4 points per game.
Following Saturday's contest, UWA heads to the northern part of the state to take on North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville in a pair of weekend games. West Alabama starts the northern state swing when the Tigers play UAH Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Huntsville, Ala.
