Tigers Look to Extend Win Streak Against UAH in Conference Opener

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team looks to continue its winning streak on Thursday, Jan. 5 as the Tigers open Gulf South Conference action against Alabama-Huntsville. Tip is slated for 5:30 at Pruitt Hall.

UWA (5-6) is currently riding a four-game win streak as they closed out the 2011 portion of the schedule with a 63-57 victory at Montevallo on Saturday. Nikkia Jordan paced the Red and White with 15 points while Tamya Thompson chipped in 11 off the bench. Brittany Weathers continued her dominance on the glass with a team-best 11 rebounds, marking her sixth contest with double digit boards and third straight.

During the four-game stretch, the Tigers have held opponents to 52.5 points per game and 33-percent from the field.

In Thursday's conference opener, the Red and White will have to stop the top shooting team in the conference. UAH (8-2) enters the tilt averaging 83 points per game. The Lady Chargers have three of the top leading scorers in the GSC led by Jasmine Hammon and Jordan Smith. Hammon is averaging 17.6 points per game, second in the conference, while Smith chips in 17, third in the GSC.

Weathers paces the Tigers' scoring attack with 15.3 points per outing, which stands fifth in the conference. The Hattiesburg, Miss., junior also leads the way on the glass with 9.2 rebounds, good enough for second in the GSC. Jordan is tied for 16th in the conference with 10.5 points per game.

Following the conference lid lifter, West Alabama will host North Alabama on Saturday at 2 p.m.
