UWA Women’s Basketball Ready for GSC Road Contests

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team (6-12, 1-6 GSC) heads across the state of Alabama this week for a pair of in-state games against Alabama-Huntsville and  North Alabama. UWA tips off against UAH at 5:30 p.m. Thursday evening.

The Red and White enter the weekend searching for their first conference win since last beating UNA on Jan. 7. Since then, the Tigers have lost five straight in Gulf South Conference play. For the year, UWA has lost eight games by five points or less.

UWA will also be looking to find more scoring on the offensive end. Coach Craig Roden's squad averaged 63 points per contest against non-conference foes, while scoring 52 points per game against teams in the Gulf South Conference. Defensively, UWA is holding opponents to just 61 points per game, while forcing an average of 17 turnovers per outing.

The Tigers are led by junior forward Brittany Weathers who leads the team in both scoring and rebounding for the year. Averaging close to a double-double for the season, Weathers is scoring 13.1 points per contest to go along with a 9.1 rebounding average.

UWA collides with a Chargers team that sits tied with Delta State for the top spot in the conference having won two-straight in GSC action. Meanwhile, UNA sits at 2-5 against GSC competition and lost to the Tigers, 70-63, earlier in the year.
