LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Fresh off a big win over No. 10 Christian Brothers, the University of West Alabama men's basketball team (7-16, 4-6 GSC) returns to Pruitt Hall to face rival Delta State (5-16, 1-9 GSC) Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
UWA snapped a three-game losing skid Thursday evening, picking up an upset victory over No. 10 Christian Brothers. In that contest, UWA led by as many as 15 before pulling away in the final seconds for the 69-64 win.
Senior guard
Alquan Mendenhall led the Tigers in that contest with 24 points on the night, while teammate and sophomore center
Kyle Belcher played 36 minutes in place of
Darrion Booker.
Delta State enters Saturday's contest after falling to West Georgia, 82-70, on Thursday night. Previous to that loss, DSU snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 72-70 triumph over West Florida on Feb. 4.
Leading the Tigers for the year has been strong guard play by Mendenhall,
Steven Samuels and
Jared Woolfolk. Each of the Tiger guards averages in double figures with Samuels leading the team in scoring with 14.9 points per outing.
Following Saturday's meeting with the Statesmen, West Alabama hits the road for the long trek to Valdosta, Ga., as the Tigers take on the Blazers at 7 p.m. next Thursday.
