Tigers Fall to Wolves, 70-61

Box Score

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Sean Boston scored 22 points to lead West Georgia to a 70-61 Gulf South Conference victory over West Alabama at Pruitt Hall on Saturday.

West Georgia snapped a three game losing streak to improve to 5-6 overall, 2-1 in the conference. West Alabama drops to 0-3 in conference play, 4-6 overall in its first home loss in three games.

“We have to give West Georgia credit,” said West Alabama head Coach Mike Newell.“They came in here and played hard.

"In the first half they were just more physical than us. It was just one of those games where we kept waiting and waiting but we just could not get anything going," Newell said. "Defensively we did some good things, but gave up easy baskets.”

Jack Hill led the Tigers with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Sandy Underwood chipped in 13 points and Mychael Bester added 11.

The Tigers trailed 35-22 at the half after hitting only 6-31 (19.4%) from the field. UWA responded in the second half, improving to 15-of-29 (51.7%) from the fioor, outscoring West Georgia 39-35 in final period.

“It's all about shooting the basketball,” said Newell. “We were getting a lot of the same looks as we did a week ago against William Carey, they just were not going in.”

West Alabama looks for its first conference victory Thursday when West Florida visits Pruitt Hall. West Georgia returns home to host Valdosta State on Thursday.
