Sharks Edge Out Tigers in Fifth Set

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Nova Southeastern delivered West Alabama its sixth straight loss with a 15-12 fifth set victory in the first day of the West Georgia Crossover Tournament on Saturday. It was the second straight five set loss for the Tigers.  

Nova Southeastern (4-11) snaps a 10 match losing streak. West Alabama (8-10) battled back from dropping the first two sets 25-21, 26-24 to take sets three and four 25-21, 25-21.

Both teams tallied 58 kills and 55 digs each. The Tigers posted a .170 attack percentage overall while holding the Sharks to .131. NSU totaled the second most service aces by an UWA opponent this season with 10. The Tigers ended with four.

NSU's Sydney Cook led her team on the attack with 19 kills and two service aces. Katie Pyles and Sakkara Hart each posted three aces.  

Yanesha Johnson led the Tiger attack with 15 kills (.212 attack percentage). Jessica Voyles led in attack percentage with .345 by tallying her second most kills of the year with 13.

Four separate Tigers ended with double-digit dig marks. Abby Ames totaled the most digs for the first time this season with 21.      

UWA will remain in Carrollton, Ga., to take on Saint Leo and Lynn University in the second round of the Crossover tournament. The Tigers will face Saint Leo at 9 a.m. (C.S.T.) followed by Lynn at 2 p.m. (C.S.T.) on Saturday.
