Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Georgia took an 11-2 point run in the fourth set to defeat West Alabama volleyball 3-1 in Gulf South Conference action at Pruitt Hall on Tuesday.
West Alabama (12-16:5-12 GSC) posted its best single set attack percentage of .368 in the first set to win 25-20. West Georgia (13-12; 8-8) took the next three 25-23, 25-19, 25-22. Â Â
"Tonight we came out hard in the first set, but lost our composure at the very end," said UWA head volleyball coach
Jordan Lay. "Our defense was strong and that's encouragement, moving forward. We were also able to throw in some new girls, and create some new line ups."
The Wolves' Emily Reul led the court with 16 kills.
Elizabeth Culhane and
Sadie Beam led the Tigers' attack with 10 kills each.
UWA led West Georgia on defense with 67 digs, with three Tigers posting double-digit marks.
Lindsey Ball led with 16,
Cynthia Smith with 15 and
Carly Wehling with 12. Culhane led her team at the net as well, tallying five block assists.
The Tigers will return to Pruitt Hall on Friday to host conference leader West Florida as UWA's "Senior Night." The last regular season match is set for 7 p.m.
"West Florida isn't going to give us anything easy, but they are a very beatable team," said Lay. "We really hope all our fans come out and create a good environment. We have two seniors who have been dedicated to this program, and we owe it to them to come out blazing and put up a good fight."
