UWA Volleyball Downs Union in Fifth Set

JACKSON, Tenn. – Sadie Beam posted a season high of 19 kills to give West Alabama volleyball a 3-2 victory over Union in Gulf South Conference action on Friday.

West Alabama snaps a three match losing skid to improve to 10-14 on the season; 3-10 in GSC play. Union falls to 7-17 overall; 3-9 in conference.

"It feels good to be back in win column," said UWA head volleyball coach Jordan Lay. "The girls really just found a way to win and that is a sign of a good team. They worked hard for this one and really deserve this win."

The Tigers fell behind in the first two sets, losing 27-25 and 25-20. They retaliated by taking the final three sets 25-19, 25-21 and 15-7. UWA posted a .421 attack percentage in the final set, while holding the Bulldogs to .000.

The Tigers recorded a combined 12 service aces with Carly Wehling leading with four; Elizabeth Culhane tallied three.

Cynthia Smith led on defense with 16 digs, while Carly Wehling followed with 10.

The Tigers remain in conference action as they travel to take on Christian Brothers in Memphis, Tenn. on Saturday. The match is set for 1 p.m.
