Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama-Huntsville's Wayne Dedrick and Conner Blasi combined for 48 points to defeat West Alabama men's basketball 84-80 in its Gulf South Conference opener at Spragins Hall on Saturday.
West Alabama (3-4; 0-1) shot 28-for-63 from the field, while holding Alabama-Huntsville (5-3; 1-0) to 28-for-51. The Chargers led at the free-throw line, shooting 21-for-25. Both teams totaled 31 rebounds, while the Tigers led 13-8 on offensive boards.
Dedrick ended with 26 points, the most by a Tiger opponent this season, while shooting 8-for-19 from the field and 7-fot-7 from the free-throw line. Blasi finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Sandy Underwood led UWA in scoring with 24 points and rebounds with six.
Desmond Raymond followed with a season high of 23.
West Alabama now returns home to take on Delta State on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Pruitt Hall. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 104.9 and ESPN1049.com.
