Tigers Split Doubleheader with UNA in Extra Innings

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama redshirt freshman Mitch Holgate doubled to left centerfield that sent in two runs in the 10th inning to beat North Alabama 3-2 in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. The Tigers fell 2-1 in extra innings in game two.

“I thought we played well,” said UWA head coach Gary Rundles. “Holgate had a clutch hit when it came down to the wire. He did what we expected him to do.”

“We pitched well, but they pitched just as well. We just couldn't get the timely hit in the second game. We played as well as we could play to get the split. Now we have to come out and get the win tomorrow to win the series.”

West Alabama moves to 17-19 on the season and remains a half game ahead of the Lions in the Gulf South Conference at 10-6. North Alabama now shifts to 20-15 overall; 10-7 in the conference.

Brett Ivey (3-4) entered in the eighth inning of game one to pick up the win. Ivey allowed only one run and two hits and tallied. Brantley Claunch (1-1) entered in the bottom of the 10th inning and gave up two runs to get the loss.

Michael Watkins (4-4) tallied nine strikeouts through all eight innings of game two to secure the win on the mound. Watkins gave up only one run and six hits. Jeremy White (1-2) entered in the final inning and allowed the winning run to pick up the loss.
