Tiger Volleyball Sweep Over Henderson State in Hampton Inn Invitational

Box Score

MONTICELLO, Ark. – West Alabama volleyball completed its first three set sweep of the season against Henderson State in the final day of the Hampton Inn Invitational tournament on Saturday.

"This is another winning step for us," said UWA head volleyball coach Jordan Lay.

"It was a well played tournament by the whole team. We took care of the ball and stayed focused on discipline and fundamentals. Everyone contributed to our success this weekend."

West Alabama (6-2) took all three sets from Henderson State (1-5) with scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-14. The Tigers finished 3-1 in their second tournament of the season.

"Overall we met our goal for the weekend," said Lay.

"We are going into conference play with a strong record. We will take this next week to prepare physically as well as mentally in preparation for elevated play. All roads are leading to the title and we are on the right one."

The Tigers will open their Gulf South Conference action while continuing with a grueling road schedule against Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. on Sept. 20. They will then face Shorter University the following day before, hosting Valdosta State on Sept. 24 in a home season opener.

The match with Lee is set for 7 p.m.
