Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama men's soccer overcame a defensive first half stalemate and claimed two goals by junior
Evan Beutler in the second half to knockoff Mississippi College 2-1 on Friday.
"We knew it was going to be a difficult game," said UWA head men's soccer coach
Matthew Thorne.
"They seemed to dominate the first half, but we made some adjustments in the midfield to build a better attack. As the game went on we just got stronger and stronger. This is a quality team win over a fierce competitor."
West Alabama's (1-0) first goal of the season came on a pass from junior Traye Torrence in the 53'. Junior
Vitor Gazza assisted on Buetler's second goal in the 69'.
"I just concentrated on taking more shots in the second half," said Beutler. "When I finally got a cross I was able to get a touch on it, and it just went from there. The second goal was off a pass that was just placed in front of me."
Mississippi College (0-1) managed to mount an offensive in the 70' with a goal by Harrison Russell on a corner kick.
The Tigers will now hit the road to take on Montevallo on Sept. 10. The match is set for 7 p.m.
