LIVINGSTON, Ala. – University of West Alabama striker
Vitor Gazza scored his second game winning goal of the season in the 70
th minute to lead the Tigers to 1-0 victory over Shorter University in Gulf South Conference men's soccer action on Sunday.
West Alabama improves to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the GSC, while Shorter drops to 3-7-1 and 2-2.
"It was a battle from the whistle, but our guys went out there and gave a hundred percent even when Shorter started throwing the kitchen sink at us towards the end," said UWA head coach
Matthew Thorne. "It was our whole squad that came out today. Our players on the bench came in and had a big impact on the game. It was absolutely fantastic to see that."
Brian Meadows picked up the assist on Gazza's third goal of the season. The Tigers finished 6-for-17 shots on-goal, edging out the Hawk's 5-for-10.

Brad Louis picked up his first win in the net, making five saves to improve to 1-3. Nicolas Ferrigno took the loss to fall to 3-6-1.
West Alabama returns to the road to take on Spring Hill College in its first season as a member of the GSC. The match is set for 4 p.m. in Mobile, Ala. Â Â
"We haven't traveled extremely well this year, but we're hoping to change that next weekend," Thorne said. "This weekend was our first two consecutive conference wins this season and we hope to duplicate that next weekend."
