MOBILE, Ala. – Four West Alabama men's soccer players tally goals in 5-2 Gulf South Conference victory over Spring Hill College Friday. Senior
Vitor Gazza led the offensive with two goals and an assist.
West Alabama jumps to a three game winning streak and improves to 8-5 overall; 5-2 in the GSC. Spring Hill drops to 2-8 and 1-4.
"We are very pleased to get a solid road win against a quality opponent," said UWA head coach
Matthew Thorne.
"We started off decent and scored some nice goals. I was pleased to see the whole squad help out to get the win. We are a little disappointed to concede two sloppy goals but we bounced back well and showed good character."
Both of Gazza's goals came in the first half, with his first score in the first four minutes. His lone assist came in the first five minutes of the second half on
Brian Meadows game-winning score.
Fellow senior
Thibault Charmey assisted on Gazza's second goal as well as on freshman
Matthew Pemberton's first collegiate score in the 69
th minute. Charmey added a goal of his own in the final five minutes of the second half. Â
Eric Schwing tied the match at 1-1 in the 19
th minute to put the Badgers on the board. Matthew Lieshout added another SHC goal in the 72
nd.
UWA goalkeeper
Brad Louis made two saves to improve to 2-3. Spring Hill used three separate keepers throughout the match. Jacob Files took the loss allowing three goals.
West Alabama men's soccer remains in GSC road action to take on West Florida in Pensacola, Fla. Sunday at 3:30 p.m.Â
