Tigers Split in Final Day at Rollins Crossover; Murphy Improves Career Record

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The University of West Alabama Volleyball team defeated Nova Southeastern 3-1 in the second round of the Rollins Crossover Challenge in Warden Arena Friday. The Tigers fell 3-1 to Rollins earlier in the tournament.

UWA sophomore Callie Murphy posted her career high of 43 assists against the Sharks, topping her previous high of 36 set earlier in the day against Rollins. Murphy becomes the program's eight career assist leader with 920, surpassing Karisa Wesley's 891 assists in 1998.

West Alabama improves to 8-15 overall. Nova Southeastern drops to 10-10, while Rollins improves to 13-8.

The Tigers defeated Nova Southeastern 25-19 and 25-22 in the first two sets. UWA responded to a 25-19 loss in the third with a 26-24 win in set four.   

Sadie Beam tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 14 kills and 15 digs. The senior is only 37 kills and 21 digs away from becoming the program's 10th career leader in each category.

Yanesha Johnson led the Tigers with 18 digs, while Lindsey Ball led the defense with 23 digs. UWA led NSU by 14 kills, hitting .260 combined. Sydney Cook led the Shark's .201 hitting percentage with 14 kills.

Rollins took the first set 25-18, while West Alabama edged out set two 26-24. The Tars took sets three and four 25-16 and 25-14 respectively.

Rollins hit .187 led by Jessica Wilson with 14 kills. She compiled .345 attack percentage with 29 attempts.

Beam led the Tigers with 14 kills against the Tars, followed by Briana Sandifer with 12. UWA combined to hit .115. Ball led the defense with 23 digs.

UWA women's volleyball returns to Gulf South Conference action Tuesday as the Tigers host their "Dig Pink" match against West Georgia at 6 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
