With one regular season match remaining, West Alabama improves to 9-6 overall. Cumberland snaps a three game win streak to fall to 9-6-1.
"It was unlucky to concede that first goal, but Cumberland came out on their front foot," said UWA Head Men's Soccer Coach
Matthew Thorne. "We started a little slow but stepped it up after that. We had a lot of players come off the bench and step up. Throughout the whole game, even when we brought players in, the intensity level never dropped.
Marty Owens put Cumberland ahead early in the fourth minute with a high arcing goal over UWA keeper
Lavares Stone.
Jason Boxx was one of three Tigers to come off of the bench to score. Boxx's first goal of the season equalized the match at 1-1 going into halftime.

th minute.

West Alabama men's soccer will conclude the 2014 regular season against nationally ranked No. 22 Alabama Huntsville in Gulf South Conference action Friday. The match will be the Tigers "Senior Night" as they honor six of their veterans.
UWA is currently third the GSC standings at 5-3, while UAH is first at 6-2. A win over the Chargers will give the Tigers a pass through the first round of the GSC tournament and into the semi-final round at Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Fla., Nov. 7. A loss would cause the Tigers to host the first round against either the fifth or sixth seed.
"Of course every game we play we want to win, but now it's about building momentum going into our final match against UAH," Thorne said.
"We're hoping that if we can get the win over the Chargers we'll grab the second seed and be able to punch our ticket straight into Pensacola. It will be our senior night, so we know our lads will be up for it. We would like to encourage the fans to come out and help as well in our final regular season match."
