Tigers Held to Scoring Low in Loss to CBU

Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Trey Casey posted 28 points and Christian Brothers held West Alabama to a season low scoring to win 67-52 in Gulf South Conference basketball action Saturday at Canale Arena.

The win improved CBU to 11-7 overall and 7-5 in the GSC, and drops UWA to 10-7 and 7-4..

"From top to bottom, the team just quit tonight in the second half," UWA head coach Mark Downey said.

"I take full responsibility, but we just didn't have anyone show up. We didn't have any leadership. It was a disaster. We just have to go back to the drawing board to find what makes our guys tick. Trey Casey is a good player. He kept them in the game, and then just buried us. We just didn't play together at all."

West Alabama jumped to a 14 point lead in the first 10 minutes. The Tigers shot 14-of-30 from the field and held the Bucs to 9-of-27 to lead 35-27 at the break.

CBU improved to 15-of-21 from the field in the second half, while holding UWA to 6-of-22; 1-of-10 from the 3-point arc.

Casey shot 9-of-15 from the field, 4-of-8 in 3-pointers, to lead the Bucs in scoring. He was followed by Sidy Sall who ended with 12 points as well as 12 boards.

Jarrell Byrd led the Tigers with 15 points, but was held to four in the second half. Lleon Tillman led with 11 rebounds.

"If this is how we respond to adversity, then we have a lot to work on," Downey said. "We have a lot to improve on in the next 48 hours."

West Alabama will travel to take on the current GSC leader, Delta State, in the final of a four game road stretch. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Walter Sillers Coliseum on Monday. The game can be heard on ESPN 104.9 and ESPN1049.com.
