Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo roughed up the West Alabama bullpen for 10 runs on the way to a 14-7 come-from-behind victory over West Alabama Wednesday at Kermit A. Johnson Field.
Trailing 7-1 after five innings, the Falcons sent 26 batters to the plate and scored 13 runs on 12 hits in their final three at bats. Will Fulmer, Brandon Marshall and Jeremy Hyde homered each homered for Montevallo in the onslaught. Hyde's was a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh.
Montevallo improved to 27-18 by coming from behind to beat the Tigers for the second time in five weeks. West Alabama dropped to 27-14 with its third straight loss.
Tanner Rainey's third home run of the year, a two-run blast over the wall in left field, chased
Mitch Holgate to give West Alabama a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Holgate had reached on an infield single. Rainey hit his second two-run homer of the game, this time over the wall in right field, in a three-run top of the fourth to give West Alabama a 7-1 lead.
Taylor Burr (1-0) picked up the win in relief for Montevallo. UWA reliever
Logan Colvin (0-2) took the loss.
The Tigers scored two runs in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by
Joel Murphy and an RBI double down the left field line off the bat of
Jocobby Robinson.
Montevallo initially got on the board with two outs in the bottom of the third on a Will Fulmer's third home run, a solo shot to left.
Robinson had three hits in a 12-hit West Alabama attack.
Trey Williamon and
Jack Cockrum chipped in two hits each.
Jackson Slaid, Marshall and Fulmer had three hits each in an 18-hit attack for the Falcons. Hyde had a homer, a double and five runs batted in after entering as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning. Fulmer homered twice.
UWA closes the regular season with a three-game series at Alabama-Huntsville this weekend, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is 3 p.m.
