UAH Sweeps Tigers in GSC Baseball

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After winning in walk-off fashion in the opener, Alabama-Huntsville left little doubt in the nightcap on the way to sweeping West Alabama in a Gulf South Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Charger Park.
 
The Chargers won game one, 6-5, when Austin Sanders singled down the left field line to drive in Chase Handley with the game winner. After spotting UWA a 3-0 lead in game two, UAH exploded for 10 runs on 12 hits off Tiger starter Zach Parks on the way to a 10-3 victory.
 
Alabama-Huntsville extended its winning streak to 12 games with the sweep, improving to 34-13 overall and 22-7 in the GSC. West Alabama has lost five straight and dropped to 27-16 and 15-13.
 
Luke Mould (3-0) picked up the pitching win in the opener. Brock Ward (0-3) was tagged with the loss, also in relief. UAH starter Alex Aultman (7-4) earned the complete game victory in game two. Parks (7-4) took the loss.
 
Parker Madden had five hits for West Alabama in the twinbill, including his first home run of the season. Jack Cockrum had had three hits in the second game for the Tigers.
 
Tanner Rainey and Madden each had two-run homers for West Alabama in the first game. Rainey's homer was his fifth and his third in two games. Mitch Holgate, Tyler Richburg and Eddie Kieffer all doubled for UWA in the first game for UWA.
 
 Alabama-Huntsville combined to get 30 hits in the doubleheader, with Cody Burton going 4-for-4 in the opener and finishing with five hits on the day. Conner McCain chipped in four hits on the day for UAH, as did Justin Riddle.
 
The Tigers and the Chargers conclude the series and the regular season with a single game Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
