CARROLLTON, Ga. – University of West Alabama volleyball battled back from a four point deficit to defeat University of West Georgia 17-15 in the fifth set of Gulf South Conference action at The Coliseum on Tuesday. The Tigers overcame a six point deficit winning the fourth set 28-26.
The win lifts UWA to 3-5 overall and 3-1 in the GSC, while UWG falls to 2-6 and 0-4. The Tigers never trailed in the first set, securing a 25-18 lead. The Wolves relinquished their lead only twice in the following two sets, winning 25-20 and 25-22.

"We came out on a good roll in the first set, really firing on all cylinders," said UWA head coach
Jordan Lay. "Then we started making critical errors in the second and third sets, but the girls rallied back to find a way to win in the end."
Yanesha Johnson led the Tiger attack for the four straight match posting a season high of 16 kills and 19 points.
Callie Murphy marked her second best of the season with 29 assists. The setter split reps with
Sam Burgess who tallied 20 assists.
On defense,
Sadie Beam and
Lindsey Ball combined for 47 digs.
Elizabeth Culhane shattered her season record with seven block assists and three solo blocks.
Nikki McDaniel led the Wolves with 18 kills, while Kayla Hartman completed 39 sets.
West Georgia totaled 35 attack errors, including 10 in the opening set. UWA limited their mistakes on offense to 29 with only two in the first. Â
"This game really made me appreciate my assistant coaches Nick Clark and
Lauren Miller; they did a great job of making adjustments that helped us finish the job," Lay said. "Now we are really excited to head back home and play in front of our fans."Â Â Â
The Tigers will open their home season against Shorter Friday at 7 p.m.
