UWA Women’s Soccer Wins Sixth Straight

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama extended its winning streak in women's soccer to six games, getting goals from three different players on the way to a 3-1 Gulf South Conference women's soccer victory over Delta State Friday at Tiger Stadium.
 
West Alabama, who outshot Delta 24-4 in the match, improves to 6-1, 2-0 in the GSC. Delta State drops to 1-6 and 0-4. The Tigers host Mississippi College Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
"I am delighted with a hard-fought conference win," UWest Alabama extended its winning streak in women's soccer to six games, getting goals from three different players on the way to a 3-0 Gulf South Conference women's soccer victory over Delta State Friday at Tiger Stadium.WA head coach Graeme Orr said. "It wasn't our best soccer tonight, but the sign of a good team is winning when playing ordinary. We will need to improve because we have another huge game on Sunday."
 
Nicki Gears started the scoring for West Alabama with her sixth goal of the season at the 15:10 mark. Lakyn Cryder answered for the Lady Statesmen from the corner at 19:45 and the teams went into halftime even at 1-1.
 
Nicola Gibson scored her third goal of the year unassisted at 65:02 and Lydia Sutcliffe picked up her second of the season with an assist from Gears at 77:18.
 
UWA goalkeeper Issy Foster improved to 4-1 while recording two saves. Delta State keeper Katie Swain dipped to 0-2 despite recording 10 saves.
