Tigers Fall to Lions in Three Sets

FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama fell to the University of North Alabama 3-0 in Gulf South Conference volleyball action at Flowers Hall Tuesday night.

North Alabama improves to 10-4 overall and 8-2 in the GSC, while West Alabama drops to 5-8 and 4-4. The Lions won sets one and three 25-16 and took set two 25-21.

"Definitely disappointed with the outcome tonight," said UWA head coach Jordan Lay.

"I've got to do a better job as the head coach to prepare the girls week in and week out. We need to do better job of focusing on the details. We struggled to get any momentum tonight, and that falls back on me in preparation."

UNA totaled .406 attack percentage led by Megan Gorey with 12 kills. Andrea DeLeon fed the attack with 34 assists.

Liz Woodard led the Tiger offense with 11 kills in 21 attempts. Callie Murphy and Sam Burgess combined for 22 assists. Murphy led UWA with nine digs.

On defense, DeLeon and Ashtyn Kapovich spearheaded the Lions with 11 digs each and Megan Wadsworth posted three blocks.

West Alabama returns home to face Alabama Huntsville Thursday at 7 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.

"We definitely enjoy being at home," Lay said. "We are looking forward to being back. We will have a chip on shoulders and will be in for a fight against quality teams. We need to take care of the details if we do, then we are a dangerous ball club."
