Dettlinger's Lone Goal Lifts Pfeiffer to Victory Over UWA Women's Soccer

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Pfeiffer freshman Gretchen Dettlinger scored  in the 62nd minute to defeat West Alabama women's soccer 1-0 in the Conference Carolina/Gulf South Conference Challenge at University Field on Friday.

West Alabama (0-1) totaled eight shots on-goal while holding Pfeiffer (1-0) to two; both in the second half. Senior striker Nicki Gears finished the match 5-for-6 shots on-goal, while sophomore Haylee Frank was 2-for-3.

"We could not have given anymore in the match," said UWA head women's soccer coach Graeme Orr. "We did enough to win a couple of matches, but tonight we just came up against a very savvy and experienced opponent. Credit Pfeiffer for taking advantage of their opportunity, however we still came away with a lot of positives to build on for Sunday's match."

Dettlinger's goal came off of her only shot of the match. Macy Ruthledge had the assist.

Falcon's goalkeeper Kate Halligan (1-0) made eight saves to pick up the win. UWA sophomore goalkeeper Issy Foster (0-1) made one save in the loss.

The Tigers will wrap up the challenge on Sunday against Limestone College at 1:30 p.m. The Saints tied 2-2 with West Georgia in the round robin's opener.
