Britney McCloud scored a career-high 28 points and recorded her third double-double to lead West Alabama to a 75-67 women's Gulf South Conference basketball victory over Mississippi College Saturday at Pruitt Hall.

McCloud, a senior from Decatur, Ala., collected 11 rebounds and converted 11-of-21 field goal attempts for UWA, who improved to 8-9 overall and 5-8 in the GSC, Mississippi College dropped to 8-9 and 4-8.

"We made some adjustments at the half that helped us," UWA head coach
Rusty Cram said. "We got the right personnel in there against their press, started finishing on the offensive end and playing smarter on defense."

Mississippi College limited West Alabama to just 29 percent shooting from the floor in the first 20 minutes to take a 28-26 lead into halftime.

"The key was getting to the free throw line, and I thought we adjusted well to a team that changed defenses almost every trip down the floor," Cram said. "We have to continue to push for that complete 40-minute game, but we are getting closer to it and never have quit."

After converting just 56 percent from the free throw line over the last five games, West Alabama made 20-of-28 (71 percent) against the Choctaws while shooting 44 percent from the floor (44 percent).

Kelcia Bufkin was the only other Tiger in double figures with 14 points.
Brianna Davidson scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in 11 minutes off the UWA bench.

Ashley Minor scored 15 points to lead Mississippi College. Kristen Sampson chipped in 12 and Mollie Blair 11.

West Alabama travels to North Alabama Thursday. Tip off is at 5:20 p.m.
