Tigers Fall to No. 20 West Florida at Home

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Nationally ranked No. 20 West Florida defeated West Alabama 3-0 in Gulf South Conference action at Pruitt Hall on Saturday.

UWF improves to 20-5 overall and 12-1 in the GSC, while UWA falls to 7-17 and 5-9. The Argonauts swept the match 25-16, 25-20 and 25-18.

"We are extremely proud of the team today. We haven't necessarily been playing great ball here recently, but to put on the performance we did last night against Valdosta State and then increase that today against a Top 25 team is a huge step for us," said UWA head coach Jordan Lay.

West Florida only led the kill margin by three as a team, edging out the Tigers 34-31. Kourtney Beck totaled 10 kills in 34 attempts for the Argos, while UWA's Brianna Sandifer led the field with 11 in 25 attempts.

West Alabama led in digs 58-47. Abby Ames posted 15 followed by Vic Collins with 11. Although defensively both teams showed strong presence at the net, UWF led the block battle 9-6. Kathryn Torre finished the match with six block assists for the Argonauts. Sandifer and Jaime Lancellot each assisted with three blocks for the Tigers.

"Defensively, we made some incredible plays that we haven't been able to make all year long," Lay said.

"To have a poor blocking night last, but come out and have the kind of showing at the net we had today was also a big improvement. One thing that we do need to improve on, is hitting errors cost us a lot today. I'd like to see us do a better job of taking care of the ball."

West Alabama volleyball returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Clinton, Miss. to take on Mississippi College. The match is set for 6 p.m.

"We had a tough start to conference play, but going into this week we feel really confident," said Lay.
