LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Briana Sandifer and
Yanesha Johnson combined for 27 kills to lead West Alabama to 3-1 victory over West Georgia in Gulf South Conference volleyball action Thursday at Pruitt Hall.
West Alabama improves to 9-17 overall and sit seventh place in the GSC standings at 7-9. West Georgia falls to 3-22 and 0-15.
"We are really happy with the way the girls played tonight and I think we are on a great roll right now," said UWA head coach
Jordan Lay.
"We are really playing hard together as one. It is very refreshing to see us playing like this again. We have had really good energy, determination, and aggression. West Georgia gave us a good run for our money, especially defensively, but our girls hung with them and took care of the ball on our side of the court."
The Tigers combined to hit .298 attack percentage, with Sandifer tallying 14 kills and hitting .343. She finished with a double-double, adding 14 digs.
From the service line UWA recorded 11 aces to the Wolves' two.
Jaime Lancellot finished with five aces and led the team at the net defensively with four assists on the squad's seven team blocks. UWG ended with no blocks.
Along with Sandifer,
Abby Ames and
Kimberly Hernandez led the defense, accounting for 43 of the team's 64 digs. Ames finished with 15 and Hernandez with 14.
Tiffany Ancrum led the West Georgia attack with 18 kills. The team combined to hit .128.
West Alabama volleyball will return to action on Nov. 6 when it travels to Rome, Ga. to take on Shorter University. The match is slated for 6 p.m. (C.S.T.)
