LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama posted its season high of single-game goals to defeat the defending regular season Gulf South Conference champions Christian Brothers 4-0 at Tigers Stadium Sunday.
UWA improves to 5-4-1 overall and maintains its top spot in the GSC standings at 4-0. CBU, who started its season on an eight game win streak, now dips to 8-3 overall and 1-3 in the league.
"This is one of the best performances we've had all year," said UWA head coach
Matthew Thorne.
"This is a big statement for us to beat the defending regular season champions 4-0 at home. We were able to get fresh legs in towards the end and the intensity never dropped. Our chemistry is starting build and we are definitely putting ourselves on the right track. We have some big games coming up on the road, but we just have to keep training and pushing onto our goal of another conference title."
It took less than four minutes into the match for
Stephen Carroll to score the eventual game-winner; his first goal of his career. The Buccaneers limited the Tigers scoreless for the ensuing 45 minutes, until two minutes into the second half when
Alex Brown netted his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick.
Jean-Baptiste Meyneil followed with his third season goal in the 75
th minute, while
Hicham Manaa tacked on another insurance goal in the 82
nd minute with his first score as a Tiger.

The Tigers dominated the shot count 15-4 as goalkeeper
Joshua Bramwell (4-1-1) was forced to make only one save to pick up his fourth shutout. Britton McGuire (7-3) made four of eight saves to take the loss. Â
West Alabama men's soccer returns to action on Friday as it travels to Cleveland, Tenn. to take on Lee University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.Â
