CBU Snaps UWA Win Streak at Three

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Christian Brothers got 42 points from two players on the way to a 64-61 Gulf South Conference women's basketball victory over West Alabama Thursday at Pruitt Hall.

Christian Brothers improved to 7-15 with the win, 5-11 in conference play. UWA had a modest win streak snapped at three games, dipping to 10-10 and 7-9.

Breanna Ridgell poured in 24 points for CBU to lead all scorers, making 10-of-20 from the floor. Rachel Lee followed Ridgell with 18 for the Lady Bucs, who shot 42 percent (24-57) from the field.

"We weren't here mentally. We thought we could just show up and win because we were ahead of them in the standings, but we are not that kind of team," UWA head coach Rusty Cram said. "I did a poor job of having them ready to play."

Britney McCloud led West Alabama scorers with 20 points, converting 8-of-13 from the field. Jasmine Hampton scored a career-high 16 points for the Tigers. McCloud and Hampton led UWA in rebounding with eight and five, respectively.

"We had one player show up ready to play and that was Hampton," Cram said. "McCloud scored 20 points. She also gave up 20 on defense, but I'm not going there.

"When you let two shooters put up 42 that means you are not ready mentally and I will get that fixed tomorrow," Cram said. "I take my hat off to (CBU coach) Sarah (Condra). She had her basketball team ready to play."

Latisha McCullum had seven assists as UWA dished out a season-high 20 assists. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 38-31.

West Alabama continues its current five-game homestand by hosting Union at 2 p.m. Saturday. Christian Brothers visits West Georgia on Saturday.
