Flames Rally Late to Down Tigers

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – NiaRaye Ceasar homered in three runs in the top of the fifth inning to lead Lee University to 10-4 victory over West Alabama in Gulf South Conference softball action at the UWA Softball Complex Saturday.

UWA falls to 8-10 overall and 2-7 in the GSC. Lee improves to 11-8 and 3-6.

Down three runs in the fifth inning, Lydia North batted in three runs on a home run shot to cut the Flames lead to 5-4. Lee went on to add a run in the sixth inning and four more in the final inning to secure victory.

North finished as the offensive leader with her three run blast, accounting for one of three UWA hits. Ceasar finished with two hits and three RBI to lead Lee

"You're just not going to win ball games win you have six errors. There's no two-ways about it," said Coach Will Atkinson. "They scored four runs in the seventh inning and didn't get a hit. We have to do a better job of taking care of the softball."

Leigh Beatenbaugh (4-5) pitched four innings to collect the win only giving up two hits and striking out four batters.

Alli Hall (5-7) pitched all seven innings for West Alabama allowing nine hits and striking out three in the loss.

"We had a lot of adversity trying to get the field ready and I think it threw us off of our normal routine a little bit, but tomorrow's a new day and good Lord willing the sun will be shining and we'll get out here and have a better effort," Atkinson said.

Both teams return to action Sunday for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for Noon at the UWA Softball Complex.
