Dezmon Huntley earned GSC Freshman of the Week honors for his second-half performance against Cumberland. Huntley ran for 85 yards and a score while completing 4-of-4 passes for 100 yards and a TD.
ROAD GAME…SORT OFUWA will be away from home for the first time, but with the exception of the 90-minute bus ride to Sloan-Alumni Field, the schedule doesn't change much. Friday will be the same and UWA will even eat pregame meal in Livingston prior to the trip.
JAVAE STILL NEEDS 105Senior A-Back
Javae Swindle needs just 105 rushing yards to move past Matt Willis and become the all-time leading rusher in West Alabama football history. Swindle has rushed for 2,067 career yards, including leading the GSC as a sophomore with 117 yards per game and 1,296 rushing yards. Nursing a nagging injury, Swindle has yet to dress out this season.
STOPPING THE RUNWest Alabama leads the GSC in rushing defense, having allowed an average of just 29.0 yards per game after two games. The Tigers limited Cumberland to 10 yards on the ground last week, minus 5 in the second half.
TOTAL DWest Alabama also leads the league in total defense, allowing just 177.5 yards per game. The Tigers are second in scoring defense, allowing 8.5 ppg. Valdosta State has allowed just 8.0 ppg.

Randy Satterfield is tied for the GSC lead with four touchdown pass receptions. Satterfield shares the lead with Kenny Johnson of FIT.

Brett Gilliland in games played in September. UWA's only loss in September under Gilliland was at FCS member Jacksonville State in week three of the 2014 season.
TIGER D IN NCAA STATSWest Alabama is second in Division II nationally in rushing defense (29.0 ypg) and third in total defense (177.5 ypg).
COACH G vs. MILESThis is the first meeting with Miles for
Brett Gilliland as a head coach. Gilliland faces the Golden Bears twice as a player, losing to Miles 14-7 in 2000 and beating the Bears 35-12 in 2001.
COACH "O" CONNECTIONMiles assistant head coach Tony Oglesby has a string connection to the West Alabama program, having both played and coached at UWA. Oglesby was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at linebacker for Livingston University, now known as UWA, from 1983-86. He coached at UWA for 14 years before joining the Miles staff in 2011.
AND THEN THERE'S KENNETHMiles defensive back coach Kenneth Watson played four seasons at Livingston University (now UWA) from 1985-88 and was a four-time All-Gulf South Conference defensive back. He had 15 career interceptions the sixth longest punt return in school history in 1986, a 67-yard return versus Western Kentucky.
