PENSACOLA, Fla. – Nationally ranked No. 20, West Florida swept West Alabama volleyball 3-0 in Gulf South Conference action Friday. The Argonauts combined to hit a .337 attack percentage, while limiting UWA to .061.
West Florida, who has yet to lose to an unranked opponent this season, stretches its win streak to three matches and improves to 7-2 overall; 1-0 in the GSC. West Alabama dips to 2-7 and 0-2. UWF came from behind to take set one 25-21, before taking the final two sets 25-13 and 25-12.
"We came out hot in set one," said UWA head coach
Jordan Lay. "Battling a team like West Florida point for point is exciting. We just weren't able to maintain that momentum we had built up. It's a tough start to this tough opening of the GSC season, but we will be ready for Valdosta State tomorrow."
Autumn Duyn led the attack for the Argonauts with 12 kills and a .400 attack percentage. She was supported by Monique StCyr with 28 assists.
On defense, UWF led seven and half to four in total team blocks. Kathryn Torre tallied two solo blocks and three assists for the Argos, while Tori Martella led the dig effort with 16.
The Tigers leading attacker on the season,
Briana Sandifer was limited to seven kills through three sets with a .065 attack percentage.
Abby Ames and Vic Collins led UWA's defense with eight digs each. Sandifer, along with
Jaime Lancellot and
Sarah Spaulding each posted two block assists.
West Alabama volleyball returns to action on Saturday to take on Valdosta State. The match is set for 3 p.m. in Valdosta, Ga.Â
