CLEVELAND, Miss. – Defender
Alex Brown broke a defensive stalemate with Delta State University with a goal in the 61
st minute on a penalty kick to lift the University of West Alabama to 1-0 victory in Gulf South Conference men's soccer action on Friday.
West Alabama snaps a four match winless streak to improve to 2-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the GSC. Delta State drops to 2-4 and 1-1.
Brown's goal was his first game-winner of the season, fifth overall, and came on his only shot of the match. The successful penalty kick lifts him to 2-for-2 on the season. Â
The Statesmen led the shooting effort 10-7, as UWA goalkeeper and GSC Defender of the Week
Joshua Bramwell (1-1-1) recorded his second shutout in three appearances.
Bramwell completed two saves to take his first win in the goal, while Jacob Hauenstein (1-3) faced two shots on-goal but made only one stop.
Jean-Baptiste Meyniel led the Tigers with three shots, accounting for the only other shot on goal.
West Alabama men's soccer returns to action on Sunday to take on GSC opponent Mississippi College. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in Clinton, Miss.
