LIVINGSTON, Ala. – University of West Alabama senior
Katy Morris set the program record of most goals in a single game with four to lead the Tigers to a 10-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern on Monday.
West Alabama improves to 1-1 on the season, while Georgia Southwestern drops to 1-1. UWA's single game scoring record was previously shared by three of Morris' former teammates Rebekah Craig,
Lydia Sutcliffe and
Nicki Gears, all of whom tallied three goals on four different occasions.
"It's nice to have a record that
Nicki Gears doesn't hold," said UWA head coach
Graeme Orr. "Katy just made fantastic strikes today and relied on her instinct. She was disappointed in the result from the other night but this should give her some confidence moving forward."
Morris netted two goals in the first half with the first one falling in the eighth minute to give UWA a 2-0 lead. The second came exactly four minutes later. Less than three minutes into the second half Morris completed the hat trick, following it up with the record breaker in the 50
th minute.
UWA freshman
Beth Preston also made her presence felt on the pitch totaling two goals, including the game winner in the just the third minute. Preston followed it up with her second in the 20
th minute to give her three total goals in just two collegiate appearances.

Elyse Gowen (1-1), Chelsee Wright and Emily Jones split time in the goal for GSW. Gowen allowed five goals, Wright allowed four and Jones one.
"Today was a terrific reaction by us from Friday," said Orr. "It's never easy to bounce back from a loss in double overtime, but we focused on the positives and we started with coming in to today. We got a lot of good looks today and were able to make a lot of finishes. We're retaining the ball much better now and doing a good job of learning the roles and responsibilities of the system."
West Alabama women's soccer returns to action Sunday to take on Saint Leo at 11 a.m. in Tiger Stadium.
