Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lee Hands UWA Women 79-42 GSC Loss

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Lee shot 56 percent from the floor and limited West Alabama to 25 percent on the way to a 79-42 Gulf South Conference women's basketball victory over the Tigers Monday at Pruitt Hall.

The win improved Lee to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in GSC play. West Alabama closed out a four-game homestand at 5-7 and 2-6.

West Alabama managed to make just 15-of-60 field goal attempts and did not have a player score in double figures. Peyton Parker and Ariel Wilson scored eight points each for the Tigers, who never led and made just 7-of-21 free throw attempts (33 percent).

Harris Price scored 22 points and Erin Walsh 19 as Lee made 32-of-57 from the field and outrebounded UWA 42-35. Anna Woodford chipped in 11 and Carrie Cheeks 10 to round out double figure scoring for the Flames.

"That's the most humbling and embarrassing experience I have ever been a part of," West Alabama coach Rusty Cram said. "That's on me. I thought we had them prepared, but I was disheartened with our lack of effort, that we quit and that we try to do things we can't do. That irritates me."

West Alabama failed to score in the last 4:19 of the second quarter, leaving Lee a 13-0 run and a 42-22 lead at the half. The Tigers would score just 20 points in the final two quarters and Lee outscored West Alabama 48-14 in the paint for the game.

"Lee is a good basketball team. They would beat us 10 out of 10 times right now," Cram said. "We just don't have any leadership, so if things don't go our way we just hang our heads."

Sydney King came off the UWA bench to grab a team-high eight rebounds. Cheeks, Christina Johnson and Shelby Brown had six rebounds apiece for Lee.

West Alabama begins a five-game road swing Saturday at West Florida. Lee hosts Delta State on Saturday.
