Tigers Outlast Badgers in 4-3 GSC Win

MOBILE, Ala. – Sam Todd netted his second game-winning goal on his second score of the season, lifting West Alabama to a 4-3 win over Spring Hill in Gulf South Conference action at Library Field on Friday.

The Tigers (9-5, 5-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute as Oreva Amata rocketed a shot through the keepers' hands from eight yards out of goal.

Spring Hill (2-10-1, 1-7) responded with two goals before the half. Viktor Kvarnlof capitalized on a Haukur Bjornsson corner kick, finishing the loose ball from just inside the goal box to equalize the match.

Kvarnlof switched roles to assist Donte Oliver, hitting the Badger forward with a pass to the sideline. Oliver put a touch on the ball toward the middle of the pitch, beating a Tiger defender to finish from eight yards out.

West Alabama fought back from a 2-1 deficit at the half, combing for back-to-back scores of their own. AJ Williams netted his eighth goal of the year to bring the match level at 2-2, beating the keeper from 10 yards out in the 70th minute.

Samuel Mawuko put UWA back in the lead in the 76th minute, grabbing a long goal from 22 yards out to move the score line to 3-2 in the Tigers' favor.

Two minutes later, Spring Hill erased the UWA advantage after Oliver's saved shot attempt rebounded in front of Tapfuma Dimairo. Dimairo placed the ball in the back of the net for his second score of the season.

West Alabama picked up the game-winner on a near identical score as Williams' attempt on goal was blocked by the keeper but left to bounce in front of the goal. Todd launced the loose ball into the net to give UWA 4-3 lead they would not surrender.

Brad Louis (8-5) earned the win, making four saves on 11 shots faced in the match. Will Carpenter (2-10-1) made four stops on four corner kicks and 16 shots faced in the loss.

The Tigers will face one final road test, taking on West Florida in GSC play on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
