VALDOSTA, Ga. – Anita Rodriguez-Sanchez and Trystin Sells combined for 24 kills as West Georgia defeated West Alabama 3-0 in Gulf South Conference volleyball action on Friday.
The Blazers improve to 11-11 on the year, moving to 7-5 in conference play. The Tigers fall to 13-12 overall, dropping to 6-7 in the GSC.
VSU was especially dominant in the first set, combining for a .324 attack percentage while holding the UWA to .000 en route to a 25-18 win. The Blazers took set two 25-15 and set three 25-18 to complete the conference sweep
Yanesha Johnson led the Tigers both on offense and defense, turning in nine kills as well as 10 digs on the night.
Briana Sandifer posted eight kills for the Tiger attack.
Callie Murphy tallied 24 assists throughout the match.
Rodriguez-Sanchez and Sells each picked up 12 kills to emerge as VSU's offensive leaders. Susanna Peonia tallied 11 kills for the Blazers. Sydney Chick collected 14 digs to lead VSU defensively.
The Tigers will continue with double-header volleyball action on Saturday, taking on West Florida at 4 p.m. and Spring Hill at 6 p.m.
