UWA Splits in Volleyball Double Header at UWF

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Alabama volleyball split in double-header action at the UWF Field House on Saturday, falling 3-0 to West Florida and defeating Spring Hill 3-0.

The Tigers move to 14-13 on the season, falling to 6-8 in Gulf South Conference play. The Argonauts improve to 17-6 (11-1 GSC) while the Badgers fall to 25-4 overall.

West Florida took West Alabama in three straight sets, winning 25-12, 25-17 and 25-23 to earn the conference victory. The Argos combined for a .347 attack percentage while the Tigers finished with .133.

Briana Sandifer led the Tigers offensive efforts, totaling 11 kills on a .259 hitting percentage. Abby Ames picked up nine digs in the first match to lead the UWA defense, followed by Sandifer who finished with eight digs.

UWF's Corisha Smith and Cora Bidlack combined for 23 kills. Smith landed 12, followed by Bidlack with 11. Tori Martella led the Argos' defense with 12 digs, and Monique StCyr finished with 11 digs.

West Alabama flipped the script in their second match, defeating Spring Hill 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18 to complete the cross-conference sweep. The Tigers posted a combined .247 attack percentage while holding the Badgers to .061 throughout the match.

Sandifer turned in a double-double performance, collecting 10 kills and 13 digs. Yanesha Johnson also posted 10 kills against SHC to emerge as a co-leader for the Tiger attack. Liz Woodard tallied nine kills while hitting .286 and Taylor Donato picked up eight kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Callie Murphy totaled 13 digs for the UWA defense in the second match of the night while Ames and Alex Fuelling each finished with 11 digs.

Sarah Senft and Taylor Hurst each landed eight kills for the Badgers. Anna Tietjens led SHC's defensive efforts with 15 digs. Senft totaled 13 digs in the match. Cassidi Sterrett followed with 11 digs.

The Tigers will continue on the road, facing off against West Georgia in GSC play on Thursday. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
