CARROLLTON, Ga. –
Liz Woodard recorded two season-highs with 13 kills and six total blocks, helping West Alabama to a 3-1 Gulf South Conference volleyball win over West Georgia at The Coliseum on Thursday.
The Tigers improve to 15-13 on the season, grabbing their second-consecutive conference victory to move to 7-8 in the GSC. The Wolves fall to 4-21 overall, dropping to 1-15 in league play.
West Alabama took a 1-0 lead, outscoring West Georgia 14-7 after the fifth lead change to win set one 25-18. West Georgia held the Tigers to a .000 attack percentage in the second set, evening the match at 1-1 with a 25-18 set victory.
After trailing early on, UWA maintained a three-point advantage over UWG throughout the third set to win 25-16. The Tigers never trailed in the fourth set, securing the conference victory with a final 25-17 win.
Briana Sandifer led the Tiger attack with 15 kills and collected 16 digs on the opposite of the ball to pick up her 15
th double-double of the year. Sandifer added four blocks, two assists and a service ace on the night. Yanesha Jonshson picked up 18 digs to lead the Tigers defensively.
Taylor Donato also hit a season-high in the match, totaling seven total blocks for the Tiger defense. Donato added to the offensive effort as well, tallying two service aces and hitting .500 on five kills.
Paige Berriochoa led the Wolves both offensively and defensively, earning a double-double with 16 kills and 16 digs. Madi Fleming collected 15 digs while totaling 25 assists for the UWG attack.
The Tigers will return to Pruitt Hall, facing off against Mississippi College in GSC play on Saturday. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
