Tigers Take Care of Choctaws in 3-0 GSC Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Taylor Donato hit a season-high .583 attack percentage, landing seven kills with no errors as West Alabama volleyball swept Mississippi College 3-0 in Gulf South Conference action at Pruitt Hall on Saturday.

The Tigers Improve to 16-13 on the season, moving to an even .500 in the league at 8-8. The Choctaws fall to 9-18 overall, dropping to 2-14 in the GSC.

"I thought we looked really consistent on the court today," UWA head coach Alexis Meeks said. "Callie distributed the ball evenly and that allowed us to open up our attack with Woody, Nesh, and Bri."

"Donato gave us a spark with her effort today, and that has really given us a second wind. Now we need to capitalize on controlling errors and staying in system for Lee and Shorter next week. They are both really controlled, and if we can eliminate errors, we can control the pace."

West Alabama rallied back from a four-point deficit midway through the first set, outscoring the Choctaws 17-7 to take set one 25-19.

The Tigers' offense ignited in the second and third sets, combining to hit a .392 attack percentage while holding Mississippi College to .000. UWA won set two 25-15 and set three 25-13 to defeat MC in three straight sets.

In all, four Tigers hit over .250 on the day. Briana Sandifer led the UWA attack, turning in 11 kills on a .429 attack percentage through three sets. Yanesha Johnson tallied nine kills on a .304 attack percentage, and Liz Woodard finished with eight kills while hitting .278. Abby Ames led the Tigers in digs with 18, while Donato and Jaime Lancellot each totaled two blocks.
