JACKSON, Tenn. – Harrison Roberts, Clay Green and Oreva Amata combined for three goals as West Alabama men's soccer grabbed its third consecutive Gulf South Conference victory on Sunday, defeating Union University 3-1 at the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.
The Tigers improve to 7-4 on the season, improving to 3-1 in league action. The Bulldogs fall to 4-8 overall, dropping to 2-4 in conference play.
West Alabama got on the board in the 6th minute as Jack Shiels connected with a Green inside the goal box. Green launched a shot into the upper left corner of the goal, putting the Tigers ahead 1-0 on his fifth score of the season.
The Tigers improved their lead to 2-0 as Amata picked up his first game-winner in the 32nd minute. The UWA forward broke away from the Bulldog defenders, placing a shot into the lower left corner of the goal on his third score of the 2016 campaign.
The Bulldogs responded in the 44th minute as Paul Langford put a header the lower left corner of the net to pull Union within one score. Rodrigo Zonta earned an assist on the goal.
Liam Ireland set up Roberts with an opportunity to give UWA a two-score advantage in the 62nd minute, placing a pass inside the goal box. Roberts beat the keeper with a shot into the upper right corner of the net, giving West Alabama a final 3-1 lead.
Brad Louis (6-4) earned the win, making four saves while facing 11 shots on the day. Igor Luczensky (1-5) allowed three goals while making seven saves in the loss.
West Alabama will return to Tiger Stadium, taking on Lee University in a GSC match on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
