Delta State Bombs Tigers 13-6 to Take Series

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State rapped out 19 hits on the way to a 13-6 Gulf South Conference baseball victory over No. 7 West Alabama Sunday at Harvey Stadium.

The victory ensured a series win for the Statesmen, who improved to 7-4 overall, 2-1 in GSC play with the win. UWA has three of its last four games and drops to 7-4 and 1-2.

West Alabama led 3-0 in the second inning and then 6-3 after four innings before the Statesmen exploded for four runs in the fifth, five more in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh to complete the scoring.

Delta State reliever Justin Vincent (1-0) did not allow a hit in the final five innings, striking out six, to earn his first pitching win of the season. West Alabama starter Evan Anderson (2-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs on 10 hits through 4.2 innings.

Delta State catcher Ben Pickard had four hits and drove in three runs, while Ethan Gill had three hits and four RBI. Five other Statesmen had two hits. Gill had a pair of doubles and Pickard homered for the third time this year, his second in the series.
