Tiger Tennis Sweeps Lee in GSC Match

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The men and women's tennis teams for the University of West Alabama both defeated Lee University Sunday at the Vaughan Tennis Center, nailing down the first Gulf South Conference victories of the season for both teams.

Winning every doubles point in both the men and women's competition, the Tiger men defeated the Flames, 5-3, and the women notched a 5-2 victory.

"It was a very long and competitive day of tennis," UWA coach Jeff Beaman said. "With the multiple rain delays we got close to 12 hours from when we met in the morning to when the women's match was clinched.

"I am happy with how both the men's and women's teams have progressed with their doubles," Beaman said. "In singles there were a lot of battles. Lee competed very hard and both matches could have easily turned into losses, so I am proud of both teams in achieving these wins."

Caspar Schuetze and Andrii Stratiienko captured men's singles wins at #2 and #5, respectively. Women's singles wins came from Amina Mukhametshina at #1 and Liliana Arauca at #4.
