Lee Completes Series Sweep over West Alabama

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Trent Hill did not allow an earned run in 6.2 innings while getting two hits and driving in two runs as a batter to lead Lee to a 5-2 Gulf South Conference baseball victory over West Alabama Sunday at Olympic Field.

Lee (20-13, 10-9) completed the three-game sweep of the No. 5 Tigers, marking the first three-game GSC sweep suffered by West Alabama (26-8, 15-6) since the 2013 season when Alabama Huntsville won three over UWA to end the regular season.

Lee scored a single run in the first inning when Tyler Payne singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Trent Hill.

The Flames scored two more in the fifth inning. Hill walked and went to third on a double by Luke Toms. Tiger pitcher Evan Miller then balked to score Hill and Nathan Wierzgac singled in Toms.

Lee extended its lead to 5-0 in the sixth inning on a RBI double by Hill and a Tiger error. UWA picked up an unearned run in the top of the seventh, taking advantage of a Lee error, two walks and a hit batter to cut the lead to 5-1.

The Tigers used a Josh Winningham triple and a groundout by Adam Chamblee to plate a second run and complete the scoring in the eighth inning.

West Alabama got seven hits and had 16 base runners, but left 12 on base. The Tigers left 32 runners on base in the three-game series.

Hill (4-2) scattered four hits while striking out five and walking five for the pitching win. Miller (4-2) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four over 5.2 innings.
