Volleyball falls to Florida Southern 3-1 in first day of GSC/SSC Crossover

HOOVER, Ala.— It was a tight battle throughout, but the West Alabama Tigers couldn't overcome a scrappy Florida Southern team and fell to the Mocs 3-1 on day one of the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Crossover.
 
UWA sees a three-game winning streak snapped as the Tigers fall to 13-7 overall while Florida Southern improves to 11-6.
 
The first set went into extra points as both teams went back and forth to claim to opening game. The marathon was finally won 31-29 by the Mocs.
 
West Alabama responded by taking the second set 25-21. However, Florida Southern won the third game 26-24 in extra points and then took the fourth set 25-19 to grab the 3-1 win.
 
Jamie Lancellot led a trio of Tigers with double digit kills with 14. Taylor Donato and Briana Sandifer both finished with 10. Kassie Till contributed with 37 kills.
 
Alex Fuelling spearheaded the defense with 22 digs while Rebecca Johnson finished with 17 and McKaidan Moore racked up 15.
 
UWA has a busy day tomorrow with two matches scheduled throughout the day. First is a meeting with Tampa starting at 2:30 p.m. and then at 7 p.m. versus Saint Leo.
