Volleyball drops two in GSC/SSC Crossover Doubleheader

HOOVER, Ala.— It was tough sledding on the second day of the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Crossover for the West Alabama Tigers as the team dropped a pair of matches to Tampa and Saint Leo at the Finley Center
 
Losses on the day falls UWA to 13-9 after the two-day tournament.
 
The Tigers fell 3-0 in straight sets in the early match against Tampa (10-25, 19-25, 21-25). The win helped UT improve to 8-10 on the season.
 
Briana Sandifer finished the match with 11 kills to lead the team. Kassie Till put up 14 assists while defensively Rebecca Johnson tallied 11 digs.
 
Nicole Dominguez carried the banner for Tampa with 12 kills and 12 digs. Sammy Mueller assisted on 32 of the Spartan attacks.
 
In the second match, UWA forced a fifth set, but fell 3-2 to Saint Leo (20-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-22, 15-8). Saint Leo goes to 12-4 with the victory.
 
Sandifer once again led the Tiger attack with 18 kills while McKaidan Moore also reached double figures with 11 kills. Till once again did her part to setup UWA attacks and racked up 50 assists in the loss.
 
Defensively, Alex Fuelling was all over the court with 20 digs. Moore also did her part on the floor with 18 digs while Sandifer and Johnson both contributed 12 digs each.
 
Victoria Omoregie racked up 16 kills to pace the Lions.
 
UWA returns to Pruitt Hall Monday night against Union in GSC action. That match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
