Tigers collect 2-0 win over Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The West Alabama Tigers took care of business on a Friday afternoon and claimed a road victory over the Delta State Statesmen in a Gulf South Conference Match.

UWA moves to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in GSC play while the Statesmen fall to 2-8-1 and 0-7 in the conference.

"Playing away at Delta is always a difficult game," said Head coach Matthew Thorne. "I was happy we won and kept the clean sheet today."

UWA got on the board late into the first half when Jean-Baptiste Meyniel found the back of the net at the 42:18 mark off the rebound and an assist from Gaspard Voiturez-Donnelly. Then nearly 40 minutes later, the Tigers scored once more with 80:11 passed of a Harrison Roberts attack. Ali Brador assisted on the goal to give the Tigers the winning 2-0 margain.

"Some excellent Individual performances from Kiaran Maule and Gaspard Donnelly who played excellent through the whole game," said Thorne. "I feel this team has the potential to raise their game a few more gears, this is the 5th game we have won on the bounce."

The Tiger attack was dominant, outshooting DSU 18-5 led by Brador's five shots and Robert's two shots on goal.

"We have the biggest game of the season this Sunday and we all looking forward to the dance," said Thorne. "We're not here to play chess!"

Next on the slate for UWA is a home match against Mississippi College in Tiger Stadium scheduled to start at 3:30 on Sunday. Delta State will host The University of Alabama-Hunstville on Oct. 08.
